Alghero approves City Plan to repurpose public real estate

The Alghero municipal government has approved a direction to move forward with a ‘Piano Città’ (City Plan) in collaboration with the Agenzia del Demanio. This initiative aims to recover and repurpose unused or underutilized public real estate.

Fratelli d’Italia representatives, including council group leader Alessandro Cocco, noted that the plan aligns with a proposal they introduced in April. The goal is to transform abandoned public buildings into community spaces, housing, cultural centers, and urban services, thereby reducing costs and addressing local needs.

Cocco emphasized the need for a methodical approach, including a clear definition of the property portfolio, needs assessment, and involvement from regional and institutional entities such as the University. He specifically mentioned that assets like the former Fertilia Hostel should be integrated into this organic framework rather than being treated through isolated interventions.
