Alghero cemetery undergoes 1.09 million euro renovation

The Alghero cemetery is undergoing a major redevelopment and maintenance project valued at 1.09 million euros. Initiated in June by the Department of Public Works, the project has already expanded the number of new burial niches from an initial estimate of 264 to a total of 352.

Additional works include the construction of approximately 400 new ossuary cells and the securing of field 15. The renovation also covers structural maintenance such as roofs, plaster, water disposal systems, and window frames. Planned improvements feature new security systems, a new ossuary block, internal road paving, and hydraulic regulation works.

Local councilors from Commissions III and V recently inspected the site to verify progress. Other planned upgrades include the installation of five new stairs and the securing of trees along the internal roads.
