Alghero committee proposes solar plant for EV charging

The Comitato Suolo Pubblico Bene Comune has submitted an open letter to the Mayor of Alghero and local officials proposing the installation of a municipal photovoltaic plant in Piazza della Pace. The proposal aims to create a renewable energy system with accumulators specifically designed to charge battery electric vehicles (BEV) without drawing power from the electrical grid.

This initiative is intended to combat the urban heat island effect and reduce the city’s carbon footprint. The committee noted that while recent efforts by local authorities and police have helped reactivate charging stations and clear illegal parking by internal combustion vehicles, a dedicated solar-powered system would provide a more virtuous model for zero-emission mobility. The proposal highlights that approximately 75% of electricity in Sardinia is currently produced from coal and fossil fuels.
