Alghero council challenges urban waste contract and halts Cala Finanza renewable project

Councilors from the Forza Italia party in Alghero have accused the municipal administration, led by Mayor Giovanni Cacciotto, of mishandling the urban waste‑collection contract. They cite insufficient oversight, payroll disputes, safety shortcomings, outdated equipment, and delays, warning that the controversy could damage the city’s tourism peak. The councillors have demanded an urgent commission and a council briefing to address the issues.

Separately, Five Star Movement councillor Giusy Piccone praised regional President Alessandra Todde’s decision to block a renewable‑energy project at Cala Finanza. She stressed Sardinia’s right to participate in decisions affecting its territory, landscape and development model, arguing that projects must respect local autonomy and environmental protections.

Both disputes highlight political tensions in Alghero over public service contracts and land‑use decisions, with local leaders invoking oversight, worker rights and regional identity.
