Alghero council dispute over delayed electricity substation sparks blame war

In the Sardinian city of Alghero, Lega councilor Michele Pais accused the current municipal majority of having "lost two years" in delivering a new electricity substation, linking the delay to ongoing blackouts that affect residents. He claimed the ruling coalition’s inaction caused economic damage.

Christian Mulas, president of the council’s Environment Commission, responded that the Lega itself obstructed the project in 2023, alongside a spontaneous committee, and that technical, bureaucratic and landscape‑protection issues also slowed progress. He warned that time will reveal each side’s responsibility, emphasizing the need for consistent action on strategic energy infrastructure.

The debate highlights political tension over the electrification upgrade, with both sides invoking past decisions and environmental constraints as they vie for accountability.
