Sicily implements tax incentives for new residents
Sicily has activated new tax incentive measures designed to attract new residents and combat depopulation. Under the 2026 Regional Stability Law, individuals moving their residency from abroad to Sicily can receive a reimbursement of 50% of their regional Irpef tax for three years, capped at €100,000 annually. This percentage increases to 60% for those who purchase property or perform building renovations in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
To qualify, beneficiaries must establish residency and tax domicile in Sicily between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2028, and must acquire or renovate a property within twelve months. Regional President Renato Schifani stated the measure aims to bring back professionals and young emigrants to boost the regional economy.
In separate regional news, the Sardinia Regional Council approved a budget variation exceeding €2 billion, primarily targeting healthcare, social welfare, and territorial assistance. Meanwhile, in Molise, political debate has emerged regarding the update of the Regional Plan for the Use of Maritime State Property (PRUA). Additionally, reports indicate a rise in credit fraud in Sicily, which ranks second in Italy for the number of cases detected in 2025.
