Alghero councilor disputes tax collection claim by Step
Christian Mulas, a municipal councilor for the PSd’Az in Alghero, has called for an immediate investigation into a financial claim made by Step, the company responsible for local tax collection.
The dispute involves a claim by Step for sums related to discounts that were not realized following the administration's decision to implement a tax amnesty program. This program allows taxpayers to regularize debts by waiving certain penalties and interest.
Mulas is urging the Mayor and municipal offices to clarify whether the city is legally obligated to pay these amounts, emphasizing that the matter concerns public funds belonging to local families and businesses. He has also suggested that the municipality should consider strengthening the role of Secal, a public company owned by the city, to manage tax collection in the future.
