Alghero Council's Rapid Purchase of Former Youth Hostel Draws Opposition Criticism

The Alghero municipal council, led by Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto, approved the acquisition of the former Youth Hostel of Fertilia in a recent session.

The opposition group Riformatori Sardi denounced the speed of the deal, saying it was carried out without a detailed project, timeline or economic plan, unlike the lengthy process for the municipal animal shelter, which still awaits expert reports and a possible extension.

The party questioned the criteria used to prioritize the hostel purchase over other urgent city matters, accusing the administration of a double standard in handling public‑property acquisitions and calling for greater transparency in the management of sports facilities and other municipal assets.
