Alghero driver surrenders after hit‑and‑run injuring Sassari couple

On 5 August 2026 a car driven by a 50‑year‑old local in Alghero struck a motorcycle carrying a married couple from Sassari at the roundabout near Strada dei Due Mari and via Burruni. The violent impact threw the couple onto the road; they were taken by emergency services to Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari with serious but non‑life‑threatening injuries. The driver fled the scene without rendering assistance, prompting a police search. On 6 August 2026 the driver turned himself in at the Alghero local police headquarters, accompanied by a lawyer, and now faces charges of omission of assistance.
