Alghero flight cuts spark union protests in Sardinia

Labor unions FIT CISL and Uil Trasporti are criticizing Aeroitalia and the Sardinian regional government over reductions to flight services connecting Alghero to mainland Italy.

Starting October 1, Aeroitalia will cancel the final evening flight from Rome Fiumicino to Alghero. Unions argue this decision undermines the right to mobility for Sardinian citizens, particularly those needing to travel for work or medical appointments. While acknowledging rising fuel costs, union representatives stated that territorial continuity obligations should not be subordinated to commercial logic.

Further uncertainty surrounds the Alghero–Milan Linate route, as the current extension for ITA Airways is set to expire on October 24. Unions are calling for urgent clarification from the Region and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to ensure connections are guaranteed after the deadline.
