Alghero hosts 14th Italian Forum on Cystic Fibrosis

The 14th Italian Forum on Cystic Fibrosis is being held in Alghero, marking the first time the event has taken place in Sardinia. Scheduled for October 17 and 18, the forum brings together doctors, specialists, patients, and caregivers from across Italy to discuss the theme: ‘Tracing the future by supporting the present: an integrated approach to the care of Cystic Fibrosis.’

A central focus of the discussions is the impact of CFTR protein modulator therapies, which have significantly increased life expectancy. Consequently, 65% of patients in Italy are now adults, creating a need for multidisciplinary care involving pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, nutritionists, and psychologists. Experts have highlighted the necessity for Sardinia to develop dedicated adult care sections to manage the increasing complexity of the disease.

The event features contributions from LIFC President Antonio Guarini, Italy’s Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli, the President of the Sardinia Region Alessandra Todde, and the Mayor of Alghero Raimondo Cacciotto. Key topics include disability reform, traditional therapies, transplants, therapeutic adherence, and support for families.
