Alghero leaders push for reforms to waste and airport taxes

Local political parties in Alghero, including Forza Italia, Unione di Centro, Lega, Fratelli d'Italia, Prima Alghero and Riformatori Sardi, have called for a revision of the municipal waste tax (TARI). They warn that, while the total cost of the service is about €12.3 million, the proposed 2026 tariffs would keep household charges roughly unchanged but raise the burden on non‑domestic users by more than 13 %, affecting shops, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs and other businesses. The groups have asked Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto to explain the tariff calculation and to consider a more equitable distribution of the charge.

Separately, Fratelli d'Italia has submitted a regional amendment to eliminate the €7 per‑passenger surcharge on flights departing from Alghero Airport. The party argues the levy harms the island’s competitiveness, discourages airlines from adding routes and limits tourism‑related growth. Regional tourism official Marco Di Gangi said similar measures elsewhere have boosted passenger flows. The proposal also urges the municipal administration to support the initiative.
