Alghero political controversy over Festa della Unità hosting

Claudio Montalto has criticized local political opposition in Alghero following the decision to host the ‘Festa della Unità’ in the city. Montalto argues that the selection of Alghero by regional and national majority parties recognizes the city's capacity to host significant political, cultural, and leisure events.

He contends that the opposition's resistance to the event is harmful to the city's credibility. Montalto points out that various other festivities and commercial activities, such as the San Giovanni fireworks and local food festivals, regularly occupy public spaces in the Alghero port with official approval, suggesting that targeting a political event is discriminatory.
