Alghero sees record foreign tourist influx in July 2026
July 2026 marked a record month for tourism in north Sardinia. Average occupancy of hotels and other accommodation across the region reached 84.21%, up from 83.23% a year earlier. In Alghero, occupancy of the roughly 30,000 monitored rooms climbed to 88.45%, the highest ever for the month. International visitors accounted for 72.34% of all guests in the north, with the share rising to 77.55% in Alghero and 82% in coastal facilities.
Despite the surge in visitor numbers, local restaurateurs report a sharp drop in revenue. Small‑business owner Tore Piana said the average bill has fallen dramatically, attributing the decline to reduced purchasing power among families and tourists. He warned that full tables do not guarantee profitability when spending per customer shrinks.
Stefano Visconti, president of Federalberghi Confcommercio Nord Ovest Sardegna, highlighted the data as proof of the region’s growing appeal to foreign markets and called for efforts to strengthen tourist flows. He referenced a “patto di destinazione” signed between local associations, chambers of commerce, several municipalities and the ports of Alghero and Olbia to better coordinate the offer throughout the year.
