Alghero selected as central hub for Sardinia's 2026 New Year's Eve broadcast

The Sardinia Region has approved a new project for New Year's Eve 2026, designating Alghero as the central hub for a major televised event. The initiative, titled “Notte di San Silvestro 2026/Capodanno in Sardegna,” aims to unify various celebrations across the island into a single large-scale production broadcast on national television.

The regional government is allocating 3 million euros through a call for tenders aimed at top-tier national broadcasters. These broadcasters will manage the artistic lineup, hosts, and technical logistics. The broadcast will feature live connections to at least six other Sardinian cities with a minimum capacity of 10,000 people.

Regional Tourism Councilor Franco Cuccureddu stated the goal is to bring the island to the national spotlight and promote Sardinia as a destination capable of attracting visitors throughout the winter months. This strategy is intended to support the local hospitality sector, including hotels and restaurants. In addition to the 3 million euros from the region, the Municipality of Alghero will contribute 500,000 euros to the project.
