Alghero selected to host 2027 European Open Water Swimming Championships

Alghero has been officially selected to host the European Open Water Swimming Championships in May 2027. The selection was formalized during a flag-passing ceremony in Paris, where European Aquatics President Antonio Silva presented the official banner to Alghero Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto and representatives from the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN).

Local officials, including Pietro Pittalis and Marco Tedde, described the appointment as the culmination of long-term strategic efforts to build the region's international reputation for hosting major aquatic events. The city has previously hosted various international competitions, including Junior World Championships and World Cups. The event is expected to provide significant benefits for international promotion and tourism in the Riviera del Corallo.
