Alghero to host musical tribute to Pau Casals

The Santa Maria Cathedral in Alghero will host a musical event titled ‘Homenatge a Pau Casals’ on Friday, September 11. The concert honors the 150th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Catalan cellist and composer.

Promoted by the Delegation in Italy of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the event is part of the ‘Estudi Polifònic’ series organized by the Coro Polifonico Algherese. The performance will feature the Coro Polifonico Algherese, directed by Ugo Spanu, and the Joves Ensemble, directed by Maria Gabriella Mura.

The program aims to explore the diverse repertoire of Casals, including choral compositions accompanied by organ, cello, piano, and baritone. This celebration coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Coro Polifonico Algherese’s musical and cultural activities.
