Alhaurín de la Torre intensifies mosquito fumigation efforts
The Alhaurín de la Torre City Council, in coordination with the Junta de Andalucía, has implemented new fumigation measures to reduce mosquito populations. This action is part of the Municipal Plan for the Surveillance and Control of Vectors, following the inclusion of the municipality in an alert area for the West Nile virus.
While mosquito carriers have been detected in traps within 1.5 kilometers of the population center, authorities clarified that no human transmission of the virus has been detected in the municipality. A specialized pest control company is targeting high-risk areas, particularly near the river and locations prone to insect proliferation.
The council is reinforcing surveillance and larval control in both urban and rural areas. The plan also includes preventive measures and public awareness campaigns to help citizens reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
