Ali Ahmeti signals Hague lawsuit against UÇK as BDI faces internal resignations

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), announced that he has information indicating the Constitutional Court may initiate proceedings at the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague against the Albanian National Liberation Army (UÇK). He warned that reopening “old wounds” would cause more pain than creating new ones and said the cases had been closed for over 20 years. Ahmeti also defended the Ohrid Framework Agreement, stating it benefits both Albanian and Macedonian communities and criticized Macedonian politicians for insufficiently explaining its importance.

At the same time, BDI member Blerim Idrizi announced his resignation from the party’s General Council, citing personal and principled reasons and pointing to internal restructuring after poor local‑election results. He urged the party to make way for other activists.

The Organization of Veterans of the UÇK (OVL) reacted strongly, condemning any attempt to bring UÇK members to trial as “political revisionism” and warning that such moves could destabilise the region.
