Macedonia VLEN accuses DUI of blocking fair‑representation law, breaching Ohrid Agreement
The ruling party VLEN says the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has blocked a proposed Law on fair representation of the Albanian community. VLEN argues the blockage violates the Ohrid Framework Agreement, which guarantees rights for ethnic Albanians in Macedonia.
VLEN spokesperson Driton Sulejmani claims the move is driven by DUI’s hunger for power after moving into opposition and accuses the party of misusing EU funds and failing to provide clean water to the towns of Zaјas and Gostivar. The party warned that continued obstruction would keep DUI out of government for an extended period. The law has not yet been put to a regular parliamentary vote.
Opposition figures echoed the criticism, stating the draft lacks legal guarantees and effective implementation mechanisms. The dispute centers on the political representation of the Albanian minority and could affect government stability.
