Ali al-Taher ridge becomes strategic flashpoint in Israel-Hezbollah war

The Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon has emerged as a critical strategic flashpoint in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Located approximately 15 km from the Israeli border, the ridge offers a commanding view of southeastern Lebanon and serves as a vital link between border areas and the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, a known Hezbollah logistical base.

Israeli forces have seized key hilltops in the area, including the historic Beaufort Castle, as part of an expanded operational buffer zone. The ridge is considered a primary operational focus for the Israeli military. Hezbollah is suspected of utilizing the ridge to house an underground command center and weapons stores, which analysts suggest provides an advantage for launching short-range missiles and drones into northern Israel.

While the ridge has seen significant military action, including heavy strikes by the Israeli air force, its status remains a central point of contention. The area effectively divides territory occupied by Israeli troops from northern Lebanese towns, such as Nabatieh, which have faced heavy aerial bombardment.
