Ali Anderson completes Sydney Marathon in under 3 hours while pregnant
American runner Ali Anderson completed the Sydney Marathon in 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 43 seconds while 32 weeks pregnant. Her performance places her within the top 1% of female participants in the event, which featured approximately 40,000 runners.
Anderson, a resident of Oklahoma, noted that while the pregnancy made climbs more intense, she felt well and monitored her physical limits closely. She previously ran the Boston Marathon at 13 weeks gestation, recording a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 58 seconds.
Although the Sydney Marathon offers a policy allowing pregnant athletes to defer their registration for up to three years with a medical certificate, Anderson chose to compete. Her achievement has prompted discussions regarding the physiological limits of endurance sports during pregnancy, though medical experts note such cases are biological exceptions rather than general recommendations.
