Ali Bahar boat accident trial continues in Antalya

The trial continues regarding the boat accident that claimed the life of Ali Bahar, the President of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO). The incident occurred on July 18, 2024, when Bahar jumped into the sea to retrieve a cushion that had fallen off his boat, the 'Alber', near Kemer Marina. While in the water, the boat's operator, M. S. Ç., reportedly maneuvered the vessel without realizing Bahar was in the water, leading to Bahar being caught in the motor propellers.

During the third hearing at the Antalya 3rd High Criminal Court, 112 emergency call recordings were added to the case file. The daughter of the deceased, Ladin Bahar, addressed the court, requesting the punishment of the two defendants present on the boat, M. S. Ç. and Y. C. Ç.

Prosecutors previously sought prison sentences of two to six years for the defendants on charges of causing death by negligence. However, the case was transferred to the High Criminal Court after a previous court determined the incident could potentially constitute intentional homicide. The court has postponed the trial to allow for the submission of an expert report.
