Iran prepares state funeral for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
Iran’s state media announced that the funeral rites for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will begin in Tehran on 4 July and conclude with his burial in Mashhad on 9 July. Khamenei, who died after being injured in Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on Tehran in February, had led the Islamic Republic for over three decades. The ceremonies are expected to draw senior officials and large public participation, marking an end to a long era of his rule.
The events are being closely watched both domestically and abroad, as the transition of power could have significant implications for Iran’s regional policies and internal politics.
