Ali Kolotou Tchaïmi elected head of IPU African Geopolitical Group
Ali Kolotou Tchaïmi, President of the National Assembly of Chad, has been elected unanimously to lead the African Geopolitical Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The election took place on October 4 in Arusha, Tanzania, during the 153rd IPU Assembly.
This appointment marks a historic first for Chadian parliamentary representation within the IPU. Tchaïmi, whose candidacy was supported by consensus in Central Africa, succeeds Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana.
For the 2026-2027 term, Tchaïmi will oversee the group, which serves as a coordination framework for African member parliaments to harmonize positions and coordinate actions within the global organization. The role is expected to increase Chad's visibility in international parliamentary debates regarding peace, security, and regional integration.
