Ali Sadpara documentary ‘The Last First: Winter K2’ released on Apple TV

The documentary ‘The Last First: Winter K2’, directed by Amir Bar-Lev, has been released worldwide on Apple TV following its premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. The film chronicles the historic and tragic 2021 winter ascent of K2.

The documentary highlights the achievements of mountaineers including Ali Sadpara and a team of ten Nepalese climbers led by Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, who completed the first-ever winter summit of the peak on January 16, 2021. The film explores the personal stories and risks involved in extreme high-altitude climbing, touching on themes of commercialization, social media influence, and the human cost of ambition.

Through the inclusion of Sadpara’s son, Sajid Sadpara, the film also examines the broader legacy of mountaineering in Pakistan and the intense pressures faced by climbers on one of the world’s most demanding mountains.
