Aliano teachers suspended for alleged child abuse

Two kindergarten teachers in Aliano, Matera, have been suspended from their duties until the end of the 2026-2027 school year following allegations of aggravated child abuse. The suspension was ordered by a judge from the Court of Matera and notified by the Carabinieri.

The investigation began in January after parents reported significant changes in their children's behavior and language. Children aged three to five reportedly began using offensive and threatening expressions at home, which they attributed to their teachers.

Audio and video recordings captured between March 3 and April 10, 2026, documented repeated instances of physical and psychological violence. The evidence includes slapping, pushing, shaking, and dragging children, as well as verbal insults and threats. Additionally, the teachers allegedly used punitive measures such as isolating children from their peers, depriving them of outdoor recreational activities, and forcing them to sit alone with their heads bowed.
