Aliano to host sixteenth ‘La Luna e i Calanchi’ festival in 2026

The municipality of Aliano has announced the sixteenth edition of ‘La Luna e i Calanchi’, a festival dedicated to ‘Paesologia’ (landscape studies), scheduled to take place from August 18 to 23, 2026.

Artistic director Franco Arminio describes the event as an effort to transform the village from a place of exile into a space of universal welcome. The festival aims to connect ancient traditions with modern perspectives through a 23-hour daily program featuring essays, art, and performances.

Aliano, a village in the Basilicata region known for its unique calanchi landscape, serves as a cultural hub housing seven museums and the burial site of author Carlo Levi. The upcoming event will host various Italian intellectuals, journalists, and artists, including Massimo Montanari, Gianfranco Viesti, and Gian Maria Tosatti.
