Marathón secures Concacaf Champions Cup 2027 spot

Honduran club Marathón has qualified for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup following a 0-0 draw against Alianza FC in El Salvador. The result allowed the Honduran side to advance with a 2-1 aggregate victory, building on their win in the first leg held in San Pedro Sula.

Despite controlling possession in the second leg at the Jorge ‘El Mágico’ González Stadium, Alianza failed to register a single shot on target. Marathón maintained a disciplined defensive structure to protect their lead, successfully neutralizing Alianza's attempts to overturn the deficit.

This qualification marks Marathón's return to the region's premier club competition for the first time since 2021. The club becomes one of the five Central American teams to have secured a berth through the Concacaf Central American Cup.
