Alianza Lima lodges formal complaint to CONAR over referee decision

Alianza Lima confirmed it has filed a formal complaint with the Peruvian National Sports Arbitration Center (CONAR) following the weekend match against Comerciantes Unidos on 26 July 2026 in Cutervo. The club alleges that attacker Jairo Vélez suffered an elbow from defender Alexis Cossio inside the penalty area, a foul that was neither penalised by referee Augusto Menéndez nor reviewed by VAR, prompting the club to seek redress through the sport‑justice channel.

Alianza Lima also clarified that it did not file a criminal complaint against referee Menéndez. The criminal complaint mentioned in earlier reports was lodged personally by former club partner Julio Lozano Hernández and is not endorsed by the club. Alianza Lima stressed its commitment to the FIFA‑mandated sports justice process and rejected the repeated poor officiating it says undermines the credibility of Peruvian football.
