Alibaba announces global data center and AI infrastructure expansion
Alibaba has announced a major international expansion of its data center and cloud infrastructure. Over the next 12 months, the company plans to establish its first cloud regions in Turkey, Finland, and the Netherlands. Additionally, it will expand its existing data center footprint in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Hong Kong.
During the Apsara Conference, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu stated that the company aims to reach more than 20 gigawatts of global data center capacity by 2032. The company is also focusing on advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities, with plans to train an AI model featuring five to 10 trillion parameters.
To support these technological goals, Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 AI chip, which the company claims delivers three times the performance of its predecessor, the Zhenwu M890. The expansion comes as the company seeks to strengthen its global computing capacity and provide localized AI services to enterprises across various sectors, including software, logistics, and electronics.
