Alibaba to sell Lingxi Games to Trustar Capital to fuel AI pivot

Alibaba Group is selling its gaming unit, Lingxi Games, to the Asian private equity firm Trustar Capital. While exact terms were not formally disclosed, reports indicate the deal is valued at at least $1.5 billion, with some estimates suggesting it could exceed $2 billion.

This divestment is part of a broader corporate reorganization led by CEO Eddie Wu. Alibaba is shedding non-core assets to concentrate capital and management resources on its primary strategic priorities: artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The company has set an ambitious goal to generate $100 billion in AI-related revenue within the next five years.

Lingxi Games, known for the popular mobile title ‘Three Kingdoms: Strategy Edition’ developed with Koei Tecmo Holdings, will continue under its current leadership. CEO Zhou Bingshu and the existing management team will remain in place to ensure operational continuity following the ownership change.
