Alicante authorities agree on €347 million Central Park project

The Spanish Ministry of Transport (via Adif), the Generalitat Valenciana, and the Alicante City Council have finalized an agreement to develop the Central Park. This urban redevelopment project aims to transform the land freed by railway tracks into a continuous green space of over 200,000 square meters, spanning approximately 2.1 kilometers to reconnect neighborhoods historically divided by the train lines.

To accelerate execution, the project—known as Integrated Operation number 2 (OI/2)—will be divided into three distinct phases. This approach allows each stage to be addressed separately based on specific financing mechanisms and prerequisites. The total estimated investment for the development is €347 million.

One major component involves covering the railway tracks and urbanizing the area up to the Alicante Terminal Station. This specific intervention is estimated to cost €220.40 million, with funding split between Adif (50%), the Alicante City Council (25%), and the Generalitat (25%) over a ten-year period. The project will coordinate with other local developments, including the new Renfe station, the TRAM station, and an underground parking facility.
