Alicante City Council approves childbirth grants for local families

The Alicante City Council has approved childbirth grants, known as the ‘baby bonus’, for 497 local families. The council doubled this year's budget allocation to provide €300 per birth, totaling €149,100 to cover all eligible applications from 2025 that remained unallocated.

The remaining portion of this year's grant budget, which reaches up to €200,000, will be distributed to applications registered in 2026 on a first-come, first-served basis. Social Welfare Councillor Begoña León stated that the aid aims to support families and encourage the birth rate in Alicante.

To qualify, applicants must be Spanish or legally resident foreign nationals over 18, or legally emancipated minors. They must also be registered on the Alicante municipal census, with at least one parent having been continuously registered for four uninterrupted years. The newborn must also be registered on the municipal census.
