Alicante extends landfill contract and launches textile recycling tender
The Alicante City Council has approved a fifth extension for the management of the local landfill due to the inability to tender a new contract. This third forced extension will maintain current services until the end of August 2027, with an additional payment of 12.99 million euros to the current provider. The delay stems from technical disagreements with the Generalitat Valenciana regarding compost treatment requirements in a proposed management model involving PreZero.
In a separate waste management initiative, the city has launched a tender for a textile waste collection and recycling service. The four-year contract, with a maximum budget of 1,616,106 euros, is reserved for social initiative employment centers and insertion companies. The program aims to triple annual textile collection from 1,100 tons to over 3,000 tons through the installation of 50 new containers and public awareness campaigns.
