Alicante family businesses drive 85% of private employment

During the XXXI AEFA Awards in Torrevieja, regional officials and business leaders highlighted the critical role of family-owned enterprises in the province of Alicante. Marián Cano, the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Innovation, and Commerce, described these businesses as a primary engine for the local economy and employment.

Data from the Association of Family Business of Alicante (AEFA) indicates that family firms constitute 94% of all companies in the province. They are responsible for 85% of private sector employment and contribute 80% of the province's gross value added.

Maite Antón, president of AEFA, has formally called for the creation of a Valencian Family Business Law. She noted that while regions like Aragon already have such legislation, and others like Murcia and Madrid are expected to follow, the Valencian Community has yet to implement a dedicated legal framework to support these entities.
