Alicante Gastronómica opens registration for Mediterranean rice contest

Alicante Gastronómica has opened registration for the qualifying rounds of the VII Best Mediterranean Rice Contest. The competition features both adult and youth categories (for those under 17) and will culminate in a final held at the IFA-Fira Alacant during the gastronomic fair from October 2 to 5.

Qualifying rounds will take place between September 12 and September 26 at various Carrefour locations, including Petrer, Torrevieja, Elche, Benidorm, and San Juan. From these trials, ten finalists from each category will be selected to compete in the final.

Participants must prepare dry or creamy rice varieties in a 32-centimeter paella pan using gas cooking. While contestants may bring homemade stocks, broths, and sofritos, the organization will provide Dacsa brand rice and Carmencita spices. The adult category offers a first prize of 1,000 euros, while the youth category winner will receive 500 euros.
