Alicante Hate Crimes Prosecutor takes over tram stop homicide case

The Hate Crimes Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into the homicide of a 27-year-old man at a TRAM tram stop in Playa de San Juan, Alicante. The decision follows demands from LGTBI collectives to investigate a potential homophobic motive behind the fatal assault.

The incident occurred around 5:30 AM last Thursday when a 22-year-old suspect allegedly kicked the victim in the head, causing him to fall onto the tracks. While the suspect was initially granted provisional liberty, the Public Prosecutor's Office has appealed this decision, requesting his imprisonment.

The victim's family has joined the legal proceedings as private prosecutors, and LGTBI associations may also join the case. The defense for the suspect denies that the attack was motivated by homophobia. A vigil to honor the victim, Miguel, is scheduled to take place in Alicante.
