Alicante healthcare administrative staff protest over pay and promotions
Administrative staff within the public healthcare service of the Valencian Community held protests in Alicante and Castellón on Wednesday. Demonstrators gathered outside various health centers and hospitals to demand professional recognition and improved working conditions.
Organizers claim that professional grades have been frozen for over a decade. A primary grievance is the unilateral suspension by the regional Ministry of Health of a 2023 agreement intended to reclassify administrative assistants (C2) to officers (C1). Workers are also calling for the creation of new managerial and technical positions to allow for career progression.
The protesters highlighted severe work overload and structural stress caused by staffing shortages. Additionally, they are demanding salary increases, noting that their current earnings are among the lowest in Spain for their specific professional categories.
