Alicante implements special traffic plan for cruise arrivals and sports
The City Council of Alicante has activated a special traffic management plan for the upcoming weekend due to a combination of major sporting events and high tourism volume. Approximately 20,000 cruise passengers are expected to arrive in the city between Thursday and Sunday, which is projected to cause significant mobility challenges, particularly in the port area.
On Sunday, several key disruptions are expected. The Ciclovía Litoral will close the section between Postiguet beach and La Cantera. Additionally, a National Police race will affect the San Blas, Juan Pablo II, and La Torreta neighborhoods, while the Trofeo Diputación de Ciclismo will impact Avenida de la Estación.
Urban Mobility Councilor Carlos de Juan has urged drivers to exercise caution due to the convergence of these sporting tests and the influx of cruise travelers, noting that Sunday morning will likely see the most intense traffic constraints.
