Alicante Mayor faces questioning over Les Naus housing scandal

During a recent Alicante City Council plenary session, Mayor Luis Barcala faced repeated questioning regarding the ‘Les Naus’ housing scandal. The controversy involves allegations that protected housing units in the Les Naus development were distributed to associates of the ruling People's Party.

Opposition members from the PSOE and Compromís criticized the administration, noting that former Urban Planning Councilor Rocío Gómez and relatives of María Pérez-Hickman, the current Head of Contracting, are neighbors of the controversial development. Opposition leaders have expressed frustration over a lack of transparency, claiming they have been denied access to critical municipal files, including emails from the Heritage and Finance departments.

Mayor Barcala declined to answer specific questions regarding the matter, instead deferring responsibility to Villar. The opposition has called for greater accountability, citing the Mayor's previous promises to uncover the truth regarding the administration's actions.
