Alicante municipalities launch long-term urban and tourism planning

Municipalities in the Alicante region are initiating long-term planning processes. El Puig de Santa Maria has launched a citizen survey to shape its Strategic Tourism Plan for 2026-2030. The initiative seeks resident input on local tourism resources, the impact of tourism on quality of life, and priorities such as improving beaches, enhancing historical heritage like the Monastery, and better connecting the beach area with the urban center.

Meanwhile, the Alicante City Council has moved forward with its General Structural Plan, a long-term urban development document. The plan aims to triple the city's green spaces, promote the construction of 45,000 homes, and allocate land for industrial use and a third hospital. However, the announcement has met with skepticism from some local neighborhoods, who cite the poor maintenance of existing public spaces and parks as a reason to doubt the feasibility of new large-scale projects.
