Alicante neighborhood leaders petition Congress for urban intervention

Representatives from the northern zone of Alicante have presented a formal demand to the Spanish Congress of Deputies, calling for comprehensive intervention in neglected neighborhoods. Mari Eva Coloma, president of the Virgen del Remedio neighborhood association, and architect Daniel Millor highlighted severe issues including deteriorating housing, lack of accessibility for elderly residents, unemployment, and insufficient community spaces.

Coloma criticized the local municipal government under Luis Barcala for a perceived lack of commitment, noting that while an integral plan was approved nearly twenty years ago, residents continue to face insecurity, lack of maintenance in parks and sports facilities, and general urban decay. The association is requesting the establishment of neighborhood offices equipped with resources to address school absenteeism, unemployment, and aging populations, alongside sustained annual community action budgets that are not subject to fluctuating municipal availability.
