Alicante official testifies in public housing investigation

Former Alicante Councilor for Finance and Heritage, Toni Gallego, testified before a judge regarding an investigation into the management and sale of public protection housing (VPP). The investigation concerns properties built by the Les Naus cooperative on land transferred by the City Council between 2018 and 2022.

Gallego stated that he became aware in July 2024 that former Urbanism Councilor Rocío Gómez was a property owner in the Playa de San Juan residential complex. According to Gallego, Gómez informed him of this ownership when she requested that he respond to a plenary question from the Compromís party, a task originally assigned to her.

Gallego also noted that Mayor Luis Barcala granted him the floor to answer the question during the session, despite a prior agreement that Gómez would intervene. Gallego suggested this change might have been due to a pre-planned script held by the Mayor.
