Alicante experiences significant urban development and housing boom
The province of Alicante is seeing a major surge in residential construction, with 11,011 new homes initiated in 2025—the highest figure since 2008. Key municipalities driving this growth include Sant Joan d’Alacant, Torrevieja, Benidorm, and Alicante.
In response to this expansion, the city of Alicante has proposed the ‘Pino y Ruaya’ eco-district. This project aims to develop 2,500 homes alongside a 340,000-square-meter park, integrating historical heritage and green corridors. Additionally, local authorities are seeking EU funding to create ‘climate bridges’ that would connect the city with the port through biodiversity-focused green spaces.
Further urban developments include the presentation of the ‘Parque Central’ project, which features a continuous linear park and 1,400 high-rise homes. Meanwhile, in Sagunto, the municipality has granted licenses for 1,200 new homes this year, a trend supported by increased construction tax revenues and local economic expansion.
