Alicante sports events generate over €1.3 million for local economy

The Alicante City Council has reported that two major sporting events held earlier this year generated a combined economic impact exceeding €1.3 million. The Spanish Judo Supercup ‘Isabel Fernández’, held in March, contributed nearly €1 million to the local economy, while the Mediterranean Triathlon Alicante in May brought in approximately €350,000.

In response to these results, the municipal government approved subsidies totaling €43,000 for the event organizers. The Judo Club Alicante will receive €20,300, and the Triathlon Federation of the Valencian Community will receive €20,000. The two events collectively hosted more than 2,700 participants.

The Judo Supercup, held at the Pedro Ferrándiz Sports Centre, featured roughly 1,200 athletes from 16 Spanish autonomous communities and several international locations, including France, Portugal, Ireland, the United States, and Ukraine.
