Santa Bárbara Castle wall to undergo 2.4 million euro restoration
The Hortensia Herrero Foundation and the Alicante City Council have signed an agreement to restore the Poniente Wall of the Santa Bárbara Castle. The project involves a 2.4 million euro investment to rehabilitate approximately 470 meters of wall dating from the 11th and 13th centuries.
Led by the architecture firm ERRE, the one-year project will include cleaning, structural reinforcement, and masonry repair. The intervention aims to reopen a castle access point that has been closed to the public for 25 years. Additionally, the project will feature monumental lighting and musealization through multimedia content and information panels.
In a separate cultural development, discussions are underway regarding the integral rehabilitation of the Teatro Principal in Valencia. The project, estimated to cost over 60 million euros, involves potential collaboration between the central government, the Generalitat, the Diputación, and the City Council following the building's indefinite closure due to safety concerns.
