Alice Cooper discusses past addiction and recovery
Rock musician Alice Cooper has shared details regarding his past struggles with addiction and his journey to sobriety. In recent interviews and his upcoming memoir, ‘Devil on My Shoulder’, the singer discussed the severity of his substance abuse during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Cooper identified crack cocaine as a particularly life-threatening addiction that nearly destroyed his marriage to his wife, Sheryl. He also detailed his history with alcohol, noting that his drinking eventually transitioned from recreational use to a physical dependency that he required to perform. He described a period of physical collapse where medical professionals warned him he was only a month away from death.
Reflecting on his recovery, Cooper credited his faith and his Christian upbringing as central to his survival. He has now maintained sobriety for over 40 years and continues to tour extensively.
