Alice Guy historical series to premiere on HBO Max

The historical series ‘Alice’, starring Bérénice Bejo, is set to premiere on HBO Max on December 4. The six-episode production chronicles the life of Alice Guy, recognized as the first female filmmaker and a pioneer of narrative fiction.

Presented at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, the series follows Guy’s journey from her beginnings as a secretary for Léon Gaumont to her prolific career in Belle Époque Paris and later in the United States. The narrative explores her technical innovations, the themes she introduced to the medium, and the professional challenges she faced in a male-dominated industry, including bankruptcy and historical obscurity.

Directed by Virginie Verrier and Guillaume Lonergan, the series is an international co-production between France Télévisions and HBO Max. It was filmed in locations including Paris, Belgium, Canada, and the Camargue.
