Alice In Chains' MTV Unplugged Turns 30 with New Vinyl Reissue

Alice In Chains is commemorating the 30th anniversary of its landmark MTV Unplugged performance with a reissued edition slated for September 25. The release will be available on CD and vinyl, offering a standard 2‑LP black vinyl set and an artist‑store exclusive solar‑flare vinyl variant. The original concert was recorded on April 10, 1996 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Majestic Theatre in New York, featuring a five‑piece lineup that included guitarist Scott Olson. When first issued in July 1996, the live album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and later earned double‑platinum certification in the United States. The anniversary edition revisits the acoustic renditions of songs such as “Nutshell,” “Down In A Hole,” “Rooster,” and “Would?” without adding new bonus material.

The reissue highlights the performance’s lasting influence on the grunge era and underscores the band’s ability to translate heavy material into an intimate, acoustic setting, preserving the final headline appearance of vocalist Layne Staley.
